WWE Legends of Wrestlemania Roster Rumors

December 2, 2008

White Machismo, Randy Savage, shown here moments before snapping into some sort of meat-based food product. Reports out of the wrestling world have sparked some rumors about the roster for THQ’s upcoming classic wrestling game, WWE Legends of Wrestlemania. Wrestlezone.com is reporting a story from The Wrestling Observer and claims that “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Mick Foley will not be in the game.Legends of Wrestlemania is designed as a showpiece for classic wrestlers and classic matches from the history of the WWE. I got to see the game running back at E3, and the match being shown was the classic Wrestlmania III bout between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. The game will let players relive those classic moments or try to rewrite history. The game will sport a simplified control scheme when compared to THQ’s SmackDown! line, as its mainly designed to appeal to the old-school wrestling fan who might not be up on all the nuances of a modern wrestling game. From what I saw, the game looked to be on the right track, but I have to say, without Savage, a game that recounts all of the big fights throughout Wrestlemania history would be completely hollow. Macho Man was a key figure in the early days of the WWF.The worst part is that the news plants these decisions right at the feet of WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. Apparently McMahon and Savage have had a long-standing feud, leading to mentions of the gravely-voiced wrestler being cut out of documentaries, including the recently-released DVD set devoted to the career of Mr. Perfect. Mick Foley recently left the WWE to work at up-and-coming rival, TNA, which probably explains his removal as well. Not to put too fine a point on it, but without Savage, this game is pretty much dead to me. Let’s hope this story reverses course before the game is released next March.
