Justice minister quits over links to yakuza

JAPAN’S justice minister yesterday abandoned his futile quest to cling to his job amid claims he had strong ties to one of the country’s most powerful yakuza crime syndicates. Keishu Tanaka was hospitalised last week with chest pains and high blood pressure after a weekly news magazine aired sensational claims that the country’s top law official had attended the Inagawa-kai mafia syndicate’s events and even served as a matchmaker at a crime boss’s wedding.
