Pollution Fines Drop 60 Percent Under Trump

The number of fines for illegal pollution has crashed under President Donald Trump’s administration, according to a report from an environmental advocacy group on Thursday. The Environmental Integrity Project examined the civil penalties that were paid by polluters during the first six months of the Trump administration and published their analysis that found penalties were less than half their levels under each of the past three presidents. The analysis found that the Justice Department under Trump settled 26 civil cases against companies over environmental violations adding up to $ 12 million in penalties, which is a 60 percent drop on average from comparable time periods under former…
