Bill Blass Couture Situation: Explained
January 6, 2009
>> There was a little confusion yesterday over how new Bill Blass owner Peacock International Holdings was going to resurrect the Bill Blass Couture line as planned, since they didn’t purchase the Couture line as part of their deal.
As Scott Patti, Peacock’s executive vice president of licensing and sales explains, the company chose not to purchase the couture line because “it wasn’t healthy.” Peacock did, however, buy the right to use the Bill Blass name for any future couture and ready-to-wear lines. The bankruptcy filed yesterday was just to clear the way for the new ready-to-wear line, which is still expected to be in place within the year.

McBeha Surfaces in Sydney
December 31, 2008
>> We haven’t had a good Catherine McNeil-Freja Beha Erichsen tandem sighting since October, when they showed up together at the Chanel Mobile Art Exhibit Opening. Their closeness has endured a lot of speculation, but as yet, there is no confirmation as to the nature of their relationship — McNeil’s Australian agent Kathy Ward’s sole response to the rumors in October: “I don’t comment on models’ personal affairs.”
Close they still seem to be — the two checked out of Sheraton on the Park in Sydney this morning, with McNeil sporting an unexpected ankle wrap and crutches. No word on whether the injury happened on the job, but she joins three other top models who’ve done their own wrap or cast stints this year — Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, and Erin Wasson.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Vera Wang had yet to start on her Fall 2009 collection as of a couple of days ago, but the same can’t be said for the sisters Rodarte. So what are the first Americans to win the prestigious Swiss Textile Award currently thinking? “The other day we were on the highway and we saw a car that was half blue, half white. At the time, we happened to be in the middle of an argument about color, and that car kind of settled it, right there. Blue.” They’re also “obsessed with these colored gels, fills for cameras”: “We’ll be looking at something like the gels, and maybe that generates an idea like, let’s do graphic color.” [Style File]

Hayden-Harnett for Target
December 21, 2008

Speaking of fab Target collections, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Hayden-Harnett collection could be the best ever. Every bag from the collection looks fantastic. The bags hit the store on Dec 28th, so I’m going to make sure I have some money left over after all my Christmas shopping.
The above bag is the one I have my eye on for a new everyday commuting bag. I almost bought the original version from HH a few years ago when I was on the look out for a light weight bag. Now I’m glad I waited. Here’s hoping the pocket situation in the Target version is the same as the original version.
PS how fantastic is the Sonia Leather jacket?
UPDATE: I just checked the Target website and the Hayden-Harnett bags are availble to order! I placed my order for the sure to be fabulous Canvas Flight tote in Purple/Gold and I threw in the Thakoon Zip Back top in Ebony/Purple for good measure so I can pretend to be Michelle Obama. I’ll probably swing by my local Queens Target after New Year’s to check out the rest of these collections in person, but I wanted to get my order for my “Must Haves” in ASAP since both collection are sure to be flying out of stores.
Anya Hindmarch for Target
December 19, 2008

I was pretty impressed when I saw the images for the Anya Hindmarch bags for Target and tried to purchase one this past fall when Target had a number of pop up shops in Manhattan for Fashion Week. Sadly the pop up shop was so mobbed I didn’t even see any of these bags, let alone have a chance to purchase one, and after that I gave up.
So imagine my suprise a few weeks ago when I paid a visit to the Target in Queens Center and saw a whole rack of these beautiful bags. I went with the smaller bag and was finally able to give it a trial run last weekend and was quite impressed. The bag was the perfect size for wallet, make up, phone and keys and I liked the magnet on the front flap. Although it came out a little plasticky looking in the above phones, the pleather on this bag in person looks much more luxe with the gold trim and gold Anya logo. Better late then never with this bag.

Bill Blass Officially Closing
December 17, 2008
>> Bill Blass has been on its last breath for a while now, particularly since Peter Som departed due to the brand’s financial constraints in October. Parent company Nexcen has been unable to sell the brand, and late last month, the brand was liquidated. Now, reports come that the company will close its showroom and the remaining staff will leave this week.
The company canceled its Spring 2009 collection due to a severe cash squeeze, and Som was never replaced; Nexcen, who is still trying to sell Bill Blass in hopes that the runway collection will be revitalized, is to the point of selling samples from the Bill Blass archives at discounts of 90 percent. A sad place for the iconic American brand, indeed — all we can hope for is that a buyer will come along and allow Blass to pull a Rochas.

Kate Moss and Sasha Pivovarova Pair Up for Longchamp Spring 2009
December 15, 2008
>> Kate Moss is the long-term face of Longchamp — Spring 2006 and counting — but in recent seasons, she’s gone from solo act to one of a duo. For Fall 2008, she was paired with French actor Gaspard Ulliel, and for Spring 2009, she shares face time with fellow floppy-banged, blonde-haired, kohl-eyed model Sasha Pivovarova. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott did the honors again, this time going for a much more color-saturated campaign than last season’s study in black and white, and showcasing the brand’s new foray into ready-to-wear.

Redheads on the Rise, or Coco Rocha’s Wig Mystery Solved
December 13, 2008
>> After seasons of blonde after blonde model, change appears to be afoot. Don’t worry, there are still seas of blondes out there, but for some key players, red seems to be the new shade of choice. Coco Rocha — who created a stir by wearing a wig to an event last week — debuted her new flame-haired shade last night, a change which she apparently made for a January 2009 Vogue editorial. Vlada Roslyakova also warmed up her tint recently — originally done for an upcoming Christian Lacroix fragrance campaign, she made the change back to blonde. That is, until the team re-dyed her hair strawberry blonde to film the accompanying television commercial, and she decided to keep it. And let’s not forget Lily Cole, who has not made any changes to her red head, but is about to be launched in a series of TV and print ads by Rimmel, who formerly relied solely on the blonde Kate Moss.
But maybe this new ginger obsession is just coincidence — fashion’s perennial redhead Olga Sherer did decide to go closer to brunette last month at the behest of Steven Meisel . . .

Carine Roitfeld Talks Lara Stone-Dedicated Issue
December 11, 2008
>> Vogue Paris’s most recent issue brought us Terry Richardon’s pinup-laden 2009 calendar, and as rumored, come February we will indeed be seeing a whole lotta Lara Stone — 100-plus pages worth.
A couple of weeks ago at the Vogue Paris calendar launch party, Carine Roitfeld spilled all kinds of details about what we have to look forward to: “February is an entire issue with Lara Stone and the cover line is Et Vogue Créa Lara.” The influence is Roger Vadim’s 1956 Brigitte Bardot classic Et Dieu . . . créa la femme — Lara has often garned Bardot comparisons — and will include shoots by Inez van Lamsweerde, Peter Lindbergh, Hedi Slimane, Nan Goldin, and Steven Klein.
Granted, Lara is known to be one of Carine’s favorite models, but fans are just happy to hear Lara speak, so why an entire issue? “Lara had almost stopped working so I decided I wanted to make her a star,” the VP editor explained.
